Shiho Morita was born in Kyoto Prefecture in 1990. She completed her Master’s degree in Art and Cultural Studies at the University of Toyama Graduate School in 2016. She currently creates her work in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Inspired by the phenomenon of water droplets forming on spider webs, Morita began working with “urushi-ito” (lacquer thread) – silk thread coated with lacquer. Her major solo exhibitions include “Urushi-Taba (Urushi Bundle)” (KUNST ARZT) in 2025. Her major awards include the Excellence Prize at “Kyoto Art for Tomorrow 2023 – Kyoto Prefecture Emerging Artists Exhibition” (Kyoto Museum of Culture) in 2023. Major group exhibitions include “Kurobe City Art Museum 30th Anniversary: Scattering Seeds” (Kurobe City Art Museum) in 2024, “Current Expression in Lacquer 2024 – Gazes toward Lacquer” (21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa Citizens’ Gallery A) in 2024, and “Perspectives of 7 Artists – Thought and Technique” (Nyuzen Shimoyama Art Forest Power Plant Art Museum) in 2025.
