Tani Q was born in 1977. He is a ceramic artist based in Shigaraki, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture. He researches the firing methods of Ko-Shigaraki (Old Shigaraki), the wares fired in Shigaraki during the Muromachi period in the 14th–15th centuries, and continues to experiment with firing techniques in a kiln he built himself. His work is also an attempt to bridge the “what once was” and the “what continues” of the aesthetic sensibility and playfulness that remain in the jars and storage vessels of that era.
