Metal artist. Sagawa Kazuki was born in Ibaraki Prefecture in 2001 and lives in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. He studied tankin (hammered metalwork) at Nagaoka Institute of Design, and at its graduate school researched mokume-gane—a technique in which multiple metals are laminated, the layers carved out and then hammered thin to produce a distinctive wood-grain pattern—as well as the forms derived from it. He creates flower vessels combining copper, shibuichi, shakudō, silver, and other metals, as well as lidded containers paired with fuki-urushi (wiped lacquer) on Yakusugi cedar, and has been repeatedly selected for the Metalwork Traditional Kōgei Exhibition. Into the flowing patterns traced by the layers of metal, he overlays the presence of the four seasons and plants.
