Minowa Takaharu

Minowa Takaharu was born in Ishikawa Prefecture in 1995 and is a ceramic artist based in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture. In Tokoname, one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns, he works mainly on hand-built jars. His work is characterized by gradations of color and texture created through repeated firings, in which refined colors faintly emerge on surfaces that appear rubbed and weathered. The effects produced as the glaze crawls evoke kairagi (“shark-skin” glaze), seen in traditional tea ceramics; while carrying on time-honored aesthetics, his works blend lightly into contemporary spaces.
