Muta was born in Shibuya, Tokyo. In 2008, she graduated from the Goldsmiths College, University of London in 2008 with a bachelor of Fine Arts. In 2012, she graduated from Ishikawa Prefectural Institute for KUTANI POTTERY in 2012. She currently lives and works in Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture. She produces a wide range of works from everyday tableware, tea sets, and other art crafts to art pieces, mainly adopting the technique of applying color paintings to ceramics. Her works reconstruct plants, animals, mythical creatures, and classical designs, reflecting modern attitudes towards nature. Her goal is to create works that facilitate communication between the fields of Japanese aesthetics, crafts and art. Her major awards include newcontemporaries 2008 (A Foundation), Excellence Prize at Itami International Craft Exhibition “Shuki, Shuhaidai” (2012), and Grand Prize at the 11th Paramita Ceramic Arts Awards Exhibition (2016). Her works are held in collections at institutions such as the Paramita Museum, the National Crafts Museum, and the Kutani porcelain Art Museum.
