Chikuunsai IV was born in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture in 1973. After graduating from the Department of Sculpture of Tokyo University of the Arts, he studied under his father, the third generation of Chikuunsai. In 2017, he succeeded the name of the fourth generation Chikuunsai. He was invited to exhibit at the Craft Show of the Philadelphia Museum of Art in the United States in 2001, where his objet d’art were purchased. He subsequently held exhibitions at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the British Museum, the Musée national des Arts asiatiques – Guimet in France, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among others. He continues to create works using techniques passed down through generations, such as flower baskets tailored to their purpose, while also creating installations and contemporary objet d’art with bamboo.
