Kondo was born in Kyoto Prefecture in 1958. He graduated from the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Research in 1986. In 2003, he completed his MA at Edinburgh College of Art. His recent exhibitions include “Contemporary Japanese Ceramics in a Global Context” in 2015 (Metropolitan Museum of Art), solo exhibition “Thoughts on Hands” in 2017 (Kahitsukan Gallery—Kyoto Museum of Contemporary Art), “Asian Contemporary Art Exhibition” in 2019 (Guimet Museum, French National Museum of Asian Arts), and “Porcelains in the Mist: The Kondō Family of Ceramicists” in 2023 (Brooklyn Museum), among others. His works are held in collection at institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Minneapolis Institute of Art, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, National Museum of Scotland, Guimet Museum, and French National Museum of Asian Arts.
